Looking for a good generator? Look elsewhere! August 31, 2010 darinoshea 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Some have compared this unit to brands that cost twice as much. That isn't fair, however that being said, it doesn't compare well to other generators either.
Right out of the box it didn't run well on efficiency mode. It revved up and down with no load or a light load (under 500 watts roughly). I called the 1-800 starting help line and eventually spoke to someone who confirmed this was not normal and referred me to a service center for warranty service. The service center had never a Honeywell generator before.(How did they become an authorized service center, I wonder?) After a few days they said it was fixed however they were not certain that warranty would cover it, so I had two choices Pay the service charges or leave it with the service center until the claim was paid. They said it would take weeks for the claim to be paid or rejected. I paid instead of waiting weeks and found that they had turned the idle screw to eliminate the efficiency mode. needless to say I was upset.
I have since contacted Honeywell generators (NPS) and been promised reimbursement on two separate occasions to no avail.
While it is a bit quieter than other generators I would have been better off purchasing a non-inverter generator or paying double for a name brand (I thought Honeywell was one.)
Overall, Do not buy thinking you are getting something like the more expensive brands. efficiency mode is useless unless you can deal with the engine surging and almost stalling. Don't buy this unit and save the money for a name brand or name brand non-inverter and count yourself ahead!
Dont waste your money August 10, 2010 anniek This unit is a lot larger and heavier than other similar inverters. I was willing to live with that for the price if it ran well, but unfortunatley, it didn't. After the first couple of hours of operation, it began to stall every 15 minutes. It would start right back up, but that doesn't help me, I use it to power computer equipment. Spend the money and get a good on.
The price was right August 7, 2010 Pam L. Roark We have lost our electricity so many times in the last 6 months that I have lost count. And our electric has been out more than just an hr or so. We had a couple times where it was out for several days. So we decided we had to have a back up plan. Plus we have a camper and wanted to be able to camp in areas without electric. This little Honeywell was priced right for us and has done just what we needed it to do. We couldn't be happier with this purchase and in the short time we have had it we have used it for camping and once when electric went out after we had gone to bed. Husband just went up and got it going and we had some lights, frig. running and a fan blowing on us. We could have had a tv on too but cable was also knocked out.
Ended Up in the Repair Shop! August 4, 2010 Carroll E. Griffin Jr. 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought Honeywell because I use the generator everyday in my job....eight days after getting the Honeywell, it stopped working....called Honeywell....they politely told me to take it to an authorized repair shop that was 45 miles from my home....it's been in the repair shop for 10 days now and they still haven't gotten it working.....
Leaked Gasoline Everywhere August 2, 2010 leaker 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Received this generator from Amazon and it fired up on the 3rd pull but then started to pump out gasoline from the carb overflow. Called Honeywell's 800 helpline and it sounds like they have seen a few of these unit with this problem. Since it was mail ordered returning the unit was not an option and was directed to take the unit to be serviced under warranty. So on day 2 of owning this unit I was lugging this unit to my local warranty repair center. Three weeks later I was informed that my unit was fixed and $66.00 later was informed that the repair was not covered under warranty due to dirty fuel clogging the jet in the carb. How can fresh gas have dirt pass the strainer in the generator's fuel tank and then pass the in line filter cause this problem on a generator that has less than 20 minutes of run time? Anyways I had better things to do than argue with the clerk at the repair facility.
I called Honeywell customer service and told the nice representative about my situation and knock on wood he contacted the repair facility to arrange for the repair to be covered under warranty and a refund for my repair.
Generator is a little noisy but powers my microwave and AC individually just fine in our 18ft trailer.
